“Hometown Heroes” Friday, November 3, 2023

We are pleased to announce that Friday, November 3, 2023 is our Annual Veterans Day Ceremony and Day of Learning. Once again, we need help to make this special day successful for our students as well as a meaningful tribute to our veterans and their families.

THE CEREMONY

The theme of our ceremony this year is “Hometown Heroes”. If you are a veteran, or know anyone who has served, we would love to have you and any service members attend. Please help get the word out! For those who have never attended one of our ceremonies, here is a bit of information.

  • Doors will open at 9:30 to the public. (All are welcome.)

  • At 10:00 am the Presentation of the Colors will kick off our hour-long ceremony which includes military speakers, musical selections from the FRMS 8th grade Concert Band and Choir, as well as student poetry and dedications.

  • Lt. Col. Andrew Davis, a Waterford resident and the director of the Greenfield High school ROTC program will join the ceremony as our EMCEE. Both of Lt. Col Davis’ sons attended WUHS, while the youngest also attended Fox River Middle School. Both are currently serving the Country on Active Duty.

  • At the conclusion of the ceremony all students leave the gymnasium to create a “Honor Tunnel” that all Veterans pass through so that we can recognize and thank our “Hometown Heroes”.

  • Once outside, we continue and conclude our ceremony with a rifle salute and the playing of taps.

If you would like to attend the ceremony, please RSVP Here!

An Afternoon of Learning:

Each grade level has a different focus.for learning.

  • 6th Grade: Movie - Max PG - about a highly trained service dog named Max that was traumatized by the death of his handler/partner. He is sent back stateside to heal with his handlers family.

  • 7th Grade: 7th graders will be doing a community service project for veterans.

  • 8th Grade: Speakers - a variety of Active duty and Veteran military personnel  will be available for discussions and Q&A on their experiences in the military. Students will also be writing cards to Veterans and their families expressing gratitude.

THE WALL OF PEACE

  • A wall of peace is an opportunity for people to create kind words, thoughts and drawings. We can then create a wall of hope and inspiration rather than a wall of division. Students will be able to pick-up a “brick” and write or draw their positive message before it is put on display.

CAMP HOMETOWN HEROES: - “Clash of the Coins” afternoon student assembly

For the past 15+ years FRMS students and their families raised money for the “Honor Flight Project”. This year we have shifted our focus and in relation to our “Hometown Heroes” theme, we will be supporting the “CAMP HOMETOWN HEROES Organization. This camp is located in Wisconsin and kids who have suffered the trauma of losing a military parent come to this camp free of charge! All money raised through clash of the coins and the activity night explained below will go to this organization.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITY TIME: 3:00-4:45

At the conclusion of our day of learning, those students choosing to stay after school will have the opportunity to have some fun with an activity night. Students will have opportunities to play 3 on 3 basketball, volleyball, dance, play board games and watch movies and of course eat snacks. This is where we definitely need your help! If you are interested and able to give of your time to set-up, chaperone and/or clean-up we need you! We will also need snack donations to sell to raise funds to support the Camp Hometown Heroes. Unfortunately, if we do not have enough adult help, we will not be able to host this opportunity and

If your child plans to attend the after school activity time, please complete the following permission slip.
