WGSD Math Teams Excel at UW-Whitewater Math Meet

Waterford, WI | January 8, 2026

The Waterford Graded School District (WGSD) Math Teams recently showcased their academic talents at the annual UW-Whitewater Math Meet. On Wednesday, January 7, students from our 5th–6th grade and 7th–8th grade teams competed against top area schools in a series of rigorous mathematical challenges.

Competition Categories

Our 16 dedicated team members were tested across five specialized categories designed to challenge their logic and speed:

  • Computational Math: Solving complex arithmetic and algebraic equations.

  • Consumer Math: Applying math to real-world financial scenarios.

  • Geometric Reasoning: Analyzing shapes, area, and spatial properties.

  • Mental Math: Solving problems rapidly without the use of calculators or scratch paper.

  • Team Problem Solving: A collaborative event requiring high-level critical thinking and strategy.

Outstanding Student Achievement

While every student showed incredible determination and teamwork, we are thrilled to announce a standout individual performance. Special congratulations to Parker S., who earned the 2nd highest individual score among all 5th-grade competitors!

Pride in Our WGSD Students

Although we did not bring home a team trophy this year, the performance of our 16 representatives was exemplary. They demonstrated the core values of WGSD—excellence, pride, and mathematical precision—while competing at the university level.
