Fall Screener Information

Fall Screener Information

 What skills will be tested?

The early reading screener assesses essential literacy skills, including alphabet knowledge, letter-sound knowledge, phonemic awareness, decoding, and oral vocabulary. The specific skills evaluated vary depending on your child’s grade level. Click this link to learn more about the early reading screener and Act 20 at grades 4K-grade 3.

For students in grades 4-8, the reading screener focuses on vocabulary, reading comprehension, and silent reading fluency.

Additionally, the i-Ready Inform assessment offers valuable insights into your child’s strengths and math growth areas.

When will the beginning of the year math and reading screeners take place?

The i-Ready math screening window took place starting September 8 for Grades 1-8 and starting September 14 for 5K. The aimswebPlus reading screening window will take place September 15-16 for Grades 1-3, September 14-18 for Grades 4-8 and September 22 for Grades 4K & 5K.

What information will parents/caregivers receive? You will receive your child’s test results within 15 days after your child has taken the math and reading screeners. The school will give you a report sharing your child’s score and how others score at the same grade level. This comparison is called a percentile rank. You will also receive a survey that invites you to share about your family’s experiences with reading and writing These results will be shared with you using NextPath. (More information about parent access to NextPath will be sent in the next week)

How will the information be used?

The information from these screeners are one way that your child’s teacher will learn about your child's math and reading skills. However, screeners will not diagnose dyslexia or other learning disabilities. If your child’s score is below the 25th percentile, your child’s teacher and the school’s Teaching & Learning Team will determine the next steps needed to support your child and create a plan to help your child meet grade-level learning goals.

How can I prepare my child for the screeners?

No special preparation for the i-Ready math screener or the aimswebPlus reading screener is needed. Just send your child to school as usual. The testing is quick and should not be a big event for your child.

If you have any questions or need more information about the screening process, please contact your building principal, Sara or Dana.
