Residency Verification Requirements

Parents/Guardians that wish to enroll their child(ren) in the Waterford Graded School District are required to provide TWO documents as proof of residency. These documents must be current (dated within 30 days of registration), and must include the Parent/Guardian name, and address of the residence within the district.

Residence is the address at which the family physically resides, keeps their personal effects, receives mail, and maintains voter registration. This residency must be a street address; post office boxes are not accepted.

Please supply TWO documents from the list below to the school office as proof of residency at the time of registration. No copies of the information will be kept on file. The office staff will document that proof of residency has been verified and will return the documents to you.

Documents Accepted as Proof of Residency: 

  • Current property tax statement
  • Mortgage document
  • Closing statement for purchase of a home
  • Signed current lease, including the landlord's name, address and phone number (may be verified)
  • Utility bill/statement
  • Insurance statement (Auto, Health, Homeowners, Rental)
  • Pay stub

Special Circumstances

Shared Custody: Student must sleep at least part of the time in the home of the parent residing in the Waterford Graded School District. Official documentation of the placement arrangement may be required.

Child/Family living with Waterford Graded resident: Waterford Graded resident will need to provide a letter documenting the living arrangement. In addition, the resident will be required to provide TWO documents from the list above to determine residency.

Legal Guardian or Foster Parent: Waterford Graded resident shall provide court documentation of guardianship or foster care placement. In addition, the resident will be required to provide TWO documents from the list above to determine residency.

Homelessness: The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act defines homeless children and youths as those who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This includes: 

  • Sharing housing due to loss of housing, economic hardship, or a similar reason;
  • Living in hotels, motels, trailer parks, or camping grounds due to a lack of alternative adequate housing;
  • Living in emergency or transitional shelters; regular sleeping accommodation for human beings; Living in cars, parks, public spaces, abandoned buildings, substandard housing, bus or train stations, or similar places; and/or 
  • Living in one of the circumstances and who are migratory

The Waterford Graded School District shall immediately enroll and allow all homeless children and youth and unaccompanied homeless youth to fully participate in school, even if unable to produce records normally required for enrollment, or has missed application or enrollment deadlines during any period of homelessness.
