Act 20
Act 20 is a state law that requires schools to assess early literacy skills for students in grades 4K-3. This helps to ensure that all students receive the support they need to develop strong reading skills. Act 20 requires that schools have systems in place for mid-year administration of the statewide screener. We have used Fall 2024 to practice our implementation process, conduct training, and work through the multiple facets of the requirements. The information below is provided to inform parents, caregivers, and our community about WGSD’s plans to meet the needs of our learners and achieve the full potential of Act 20.
The Waterford Graded School District has taken a proactive approach to Act 20, aligning our systems early to ensure a successful mid-year launch, as required by the law. Our work in the Fall 2024 focused on immediate student needs while also laying the groundwork for a seamless Act 20 implementation. We support this new legislation and are committed to providing all learners with fective reading instruction based on evidenceand responsive intervention.
