Waterford Graded School District is responsible for enforcing the compulsory school attendance law of the state of Wisconsin (118.15) and for properly recording student attendance and maintaining student records.

Waterford Graded School District is dedicated to the academic achievement and success for all students. Regular school attendance is an integral part of that success. When students attend school on a daily basis, they will not only improve their academic skills but build a greater capacity for social and emotional growth as well.                                                                         


Parents can excuse their child for up to 10 days (see policy for acceptable absences)

· Documented medical absences do not count towards the 10 day limit. In order for an absence to be documented as a medical absence, families will need to obtain a medical note when taking their child for a medical appointment or when child is ill and under a doctor’s care. Documentation need only to include date(s) under medical provider’s care; no confidential medical information is needed.

· Religious holidays & court appearances are also excused and do not count towards the 10 days.


Student has 5 excused absences:  · Skyward will automatically generate first parent notice  
Student has 5 excused absences:  · Skyward will automatically generate second parent notice which includes attendance goal setting sheet · Possible meeting with school personnel to identify absence reasons and set up attendance goals  
Student reaches 15+ absences:  ·  Truancy/Habitual Truancy letter/notice sent home  

·  Meeting with Social Worker, Principal, Parents, and any other pertinent personnel to determine appropriate plan of action and to review attendance goal setting sheet    

·  Continued monitoring of student absences by school office & Social Worker. Possible legal referral in accordance with the District's & county truancy plan(s).  

Tardies count!

Elementary: · 
Students are considered tardy between 8:35-8:45 (late) & 3:25-3:35 (early out)
